Special Olympics Nova Scotia has been both a pioneer and a leader in the sport of Figure Skating since its inception within Special Olympics Canada as an official sport. Volunteer coaches follow the principles of teaching and coaching as set by the National and Provincial Figure Skating bodies, in delivering top quality programs for athletes of all ability levels. Figure Skating is slated to include a Special Olympics Division as part of competition at the 2003 Canada Winter Games. This would be the first ever such inclusion at a Canada Winter Games, and only the second time for Special Olympians to participate alongside their Provincial team members at any Canada Games.
